The Prop Box Studio was founded by Ian Michael Smith in April of 2009. It is a interdisciplinary art space catering mostly but not exclusively to performance art. It is a live/work space inhabited by object manipulators and dancers including Code Red Circus Conspiracy and members of the Vulcan Crew.
The Vulcan, the building where the Prop Box is located, is known as a center of the fire dance in the Bay Area. It is also home to many performance artists and painters. It hosts one of the most popular spin and juggles jams in the Bay Area; it is where the Spinagogue events take place; it is where Kindle Magazine is created, which is the worlds first fire arts and culture magazine; it is an organizational hub for Fire Drums; it has been home to many performance groups including: The Vulcan Crew, A Different Spin, The Lucid Dream Lounge, Code Red Circus Conspiracy, Copper Lantern Fire Theater, and Ricochet Circuss
